Choosing a Remote-Controlled Mower
Compare cutting systems, machine size and working cost before choosing a mower. These answers explain how access, vegetation and workload affect the decision.
What is a remote-controlled tracked mower used for?
A remote-controlled tracked mower lets an operator guide a cutting machine from a separate position. It is used for jobs such as orchard lanes, maintained banks and rough vegetation, with the cutting system chosen for the material. A rotary mower and a flail mower leave different finishes, so start with the vegetation and finish you need.
Is a remote-controlled mower the same as an autonomous mower?
A remote-controlled mower is driven by a person using a handheld controller. The operator watches the machine, chooses its route and manages the cutting work. GreenShine's tracked mower range uses remote operation. Autonomous navigation and automatic obstacle avoidance are separate functions that need to be explicitly included in a machine's specification.
Should I choose a rotary mower or a flail mower?
Choose a rotary mower for suitable maintained grass where a cleaner grass finish matters. Consider a flail mower for rough grass, weeds and mixed vegetation within the model's approved cutting capability. A flail rotor carries multiple swinging tools; a rotary deck uses horizontally rotating blades. Compare the actual tools, guarding and intended material as well as cutting width.
How do I choose between a compact and a wider mower?
Check your narrowest access, loading equipment, vegetation and normal working area. A compact machine can be easier to move between small sites. A wider deck covers more ground per pass when the site, power and travel speed allow it. Use overall machine width to assess access and cutting width to assess coverage.
Should I buy a gasoline or diesel version?
Compare the exact engine version with your fuel supply, workload, servicing options and purchase budget. Gasoline and diesel versions can differ in weight, starting, vibration and maintenance as well as fuel use. For repeated commercial work, compare total operating cost for the chosen configuration rather than choosing by fuel name alone.
Why use a remote mower instead of handheld brush cutters?
A suitable remote mower can reduce the amount of walking and handheld cutting needed across a larger area. The operator can choose a position away from the cutting machine, while the machine carries the cutting load. Handheld tools still have a role around obstacles and in places the mower cannot reach. The practical saving depends on the site and work method.
When is a tracked remote mower useful instead of a tractor attachment?
Consider a tracked remote mower where access, manoeuvring space or operator position makes a tractor less convenient. Tractor-mounted equipment can remain the better choice for large open areas and heavier attachments. Compare the complete working setup, including access, turning space, transport, cutting head and the permitted operating conditions of each machine.
How does it compare with a ride-on zero-turn mower?
A zero-turn mower is useful for suitable open ground and regular grass maintenance. A remote-controlled tracked mower offers a different operator position and tracked travel for its intended sites. Choose according to ground conditions, grass finish and the model's operating limits. Remote control does not remove the need to inspect the site or manage thrown-object hazards.
Why do similar-looking mowers have different prices?
Prices can reflect different engines, cutting tools, drive components, controls, included parts, documents and delivery terms. Similar bodywork does not establish an identical specification. Compare the supplied configuration and the full order, including freight and service responsibilities, so that a lower machine price is not confused with a lower delivered or operating cost.
What information helps you recommend the right mower?
Useful information includes your vegetation, approximate area, slope conditions, narrowest access and required finish. Photos or a short video help show obstacles and ground conditions that a single specification cannot describe. Include the delivery country when asking about an order so the machine version and delivery arrangements can be considered together.
How much ground can a mower cut in an hour?
Effective output depends on cutting width, travel speed, overlap, turns, vegetation and interruptions. Dense growth or difficult access can reduce working speed. Compare results on similar sites and distinguish straight-line theoretical coverage from completed mowing. A useful productivity figure states the machine, material and working conditions behind it.
How is theoretical mowing coverage calculated?
Multiply effective cutting width in metres by travel speed in kilometres per hour and divide by 10 to obtain hectares per hour. This is straight-line theoretical coverage. Real work includes overlap, turning, obstacles, inspection and other interruptions, so field output requires an appropriate measured or assumed working-efficiency factor.
Can you give a simple mowing-output calculation?
For an arithmetic example, a 1.0-metre cutting width at 3 kilometres per hour gives 0.30 hectares per hour before overlap, turns and other losses. If an explicitly assumed field efficiency is 60 percent, the example becomes 0.18 hectares per hour. These are calculation assumptions, not a rated output or test result for a GreenShine model.
Does a 20-percent wider deck produce 20-percent more output?
At the same speed and working efficiency, theoretical coverage rises in proportion to width. Actual output also depends on available cutting power, access, turns and the vegetation load. A wider head that needs a slower pass may deliver a different gain. Compare the whole job rather than applying the width increase to every site.
How can I estimate fuel cost per hectare or acre?
Divide measured fuel used by the area completed under comparable conditions, then apply the local fuel price. Record vegetation, slope, cutting height and the number of passes. Converting the same result into hectares or acres makes international comparisons clearer. An hourly fuel figure alone does not show the cost of a completed area.
Can it work throughout a full working day?
A working day includes refuelling, inspections, cleaning and any scheduled maintenance. Sustainable operation depends on the model's duty, cooling and site conditions. Plan these tasks alongside the cutting work and stop for abnormal temperature or warnings. A full-day work plan should not be read as eight hours of uninterrupted operation in every condition.
How many workers can one remote mower replace?
The saving depends on the work that can actually be mechanised. Area, access, finishing around obstacles and the previous work method change the result. Compare total person-hours for the same completed task, including transport and cleanup. A labour-saving claim from another machine or demonstration is not a reliable staffing plan for your site.
Which features help reduce maintenance downtime?
Accessible service points, clearly identified consumables, appropriate protection and readily available replacement parts can make routine maintenance easier. Rotor condition, correct belt alignment and sensible wiring protection also matter. Compare service access and parts arrangements alongside purchase specifications, especially when the machine will work far from a workshop.
Why can wear differ between machines with similar operating hours?
Soil contact, sand, stones, vegetation type, cutting height and maintenance strongly affect wear. Operating hours do not describe how abrasive or heavily loaded each job was. Track the work conditions as well as replacement intervals. Investigating unusual wear early can reveal an incorrect setting, damaged component or unsuitable work method.
How can I compare a new mower with my existing equipment?
Compare the same jobs using finished area, person-hours, fuel, transport, consumables and downtime. Include the grass finish and access requirements. Your existing machine provides a useful baseline when its work conditions are recorded. This gives a more practical comparison than looking only at purchase price or a wider cutting specification.
